Ready for school, one small step at a time.

Online preschool readiness and tutoring for grades 1–5. Short, playful lessons that build letters, numbers, reading and confidence.

Hi, I’m Nancy.

Since 2022 I’ve been helping young children get ready for school and tutoring younger students online.

Every child learns at their own speed, so my lessons are short, hands-on and paced to the child. We start with the basics, like sounds, letters, numbers and listening, and build up from there. When a child feels capable, schoolwork gets a lot easier.

I’m happy to talk with parents before we begin, so you know what we’ll work on and how you can help at home.

For parents: getting ready for kindergarten

Every child grows at their own pace. This checklist is a friendly guide to what many kindergarten teachers like to see, not a test.

Five 10-minute activities at home

Letter hunt

Look for the first letter of your child’s name on cereal boxes, street signs and book covers. Let them point and say it out loud.

Counting snack

Give them up to ten crackers or berries. Count together as you line them up, then eat a few and count what’s left.

I spy sounds

Say, “I spy something that starts with /b/.” Use the sound, not the letter name. This builds the listening skills behind reading.

Small-hand power

Roll playdough snakes, tear paper, thread beads or use tweezers to move pom-poms. These tasks strengthen the fingers for writing.

Story retell

After a bedtime story, ask who was in it, where it happened and what happened next. Retelling is a key early reading skill.

Let’s talk
